Kelsey helps Grandma make butter

Growing up, we lived on a farm with cows and drank lots of fresh milk. There were seven of us kids, and we loved to help when Mom had a churning ready. Usually, there was a fight over who would get to churn. We loved pumping that dasher up and down and then, like magic, we would have a big bowl of homemade butter. I think my older brother Jerry enjoyed it most, he would get a book (usually a western) and read while sitting there churning. It takes about 45 minutes to an hour to get the job done.

Kelsey just had her 6th birthday, and she and I have been making butter. I have a churn like my Mother had, and it makes that same churning sound when you are pumping that dasher! (and also makes the same mess..ha,,)

Hot baked cornbread with a big gob of fresh churned butter!!!! YUM
